Autumn in Lithuania

I spend a lot my time in university things all the time and this time I can give all time only for myself. And what a free time without talking with you all. At first thanks for all who view and comment. I seen all comments, and have them all in mind. Today I will talk about my free time.
On the top was a new plant in my garden. As I love ornamental plants in fair I buy this nice Carex, which I hope was hardy enough for my winter.
This autumn, after contest in Prague I had a lot possibilities to use and one of them is a new land field for my works. So one of my interest is all kinds of plants, so I spend few days after university for seeds picking. I go to arboretums, and dendro-parks. I love all kind of maples, so I collect about a thousand of seeds and as they are fresh almost all will germinate. Here I show few photos of my lovely time spent in park areas.
This tree catch my eye and I go to look close even grass was very wet. I was shocked when I saw that this is quercus (Oak) tree.  The leaves was very nice and have like some kind a fur. I pick few leaves to my collection of leaves. I just start some new one, because leaves is get old and I do not know how to keep them in great condition.
What I like is color of autumn. I love to live in Lithuania where is a lot of trees with leaves and in autumn all of them has different colors. Like rainbow in forest. Here is a photo of color contrast. Also that tree has unusual shadow. Just take a look. It looks like square. I just go closer to take a look if that is true. And yes it is.

Lovely tree which catch all people eye. This is catalpa tree with seedpods. I pick a lot of them and they has full dose seeds.

And in end of my colorful blog without daylilies and irises, I add what I did yesterday. As I Lithuania we do not have official day called Halloween, I just want to feel the same what people in U.S. feel. Just with carved pumpkin. And this is how I imagine it.
In light and in dark. Love this creation.

Good luck, and have a nice autumn and not very cold winter.

New possibilities with big chalange

Hello for all who seen my post in here,

Today I write full of good feelings. Yesterday I get invitation to The London International Youth Science Forum (LIYSF). This is very, very special for me. But the main problem for me is coast for participation. That fee is 1 495 GPB (about 2 424 dollars). Money for tickets I can collect, but participation fee for me is too big. So I try to search for donations to get in this event. I understand I ask very much, but I know nothing to how to reach money to this.
This event will be heald in London (UK) and it is great opportunity for me to reach better communication stills and the main point of it is scientific time with special students from all over the world. To present my country and my interest in science will be so nice and interesting and to listen lectures and see great residential places of London, visit universities, labs and etc.
The biggest challange now is money. If you may have any suggestions for me, please feel free and write what you suggest for me to do to get money.

Good luck,
Edvinas

More daylilies I have, more problem I can show.

Hello,

Now I will write a little different than normal. All summer I have a plan to write a blog with question and wait for answer. As I know that my blog read all kind of people from simple to very respectful daylily hybridizers/professionals. In comment box I want to see the answers of question which I write.
As I grow daylilies in Lithuania, maybe I have some other problems (not hardy now), but bloom spots. This summer I seen that I have very much blooms with spots and that is my one headache of this year. I try to found some information in books, or articles, but nothing found. So I ask for professionals in this field. What cause this, how to protect from it and does it have any genetically variation or just because of weather conditions or soil?
I give few photos as examples how they look. These are not all. I took just few of them and others just cut off when I seen that I have them, because visitors won't want to see blooms who not like normal.

Big Red Vagon. In all season I have seen only one perfect in color bloom. This one is close to perfect, but still have some spots.

Bass Gibson x unknown. This one show me all different blooms. Others look nice and this one not.

Lacy Dusk x Get'R done. It is almost perfect, but still few spots

Paint the Rose Red. One of most complicated variety I have. All blooms looks like this or worse.

AHS-15. The worst seedling of year. All blooms look like this. My grandmother say that this is new variety type because I have all blooms with spots. I hope she just laugh.

Bass Gibson x unknown. The same seedling as I post few photos up.

Startle. I grow this variety for 3 years and never seen normal bloom. Just this day, when I took that photo it looks absolutely not like Startle. I think this is the worst daylily variety I grow.

AHS-15. The same seedling (I can't drag it close to other, sorry for problems)

Fizziwig. This variety is very unusual because it have stippled blooms, but it has spots also and make that variety look not very nice.

So this is my topic which I want to get know better and teach Lithuanians and get better blooms next year.
Wait for answers.

Bye,
Edvinas

EUCYS 2013 PRAGUE

 Vilnius-Frankfurt
Frankfurt-Praha (Praha)

Let me start my blog with apoligise of delay. This time is busy, but for you I take some relax minutes and write a little new for you all. At first I want to thank all my blog visitors, who read my blook, look at the pictures or just click on link and go out. All of you reached over 4000 views and for that I was really surprised. And back to the topic. Those two first photos you have seen few weeks back, when I go to Prague and add those photos at the next day they was taken. So then I write nothing for you and feel bad. Now you may know how all ends, but I still write for some of you.
So as you remember I won national etap of European Union Contest for Young Scientists (EUCYS) and the final of it was in Prague. So my great days was in September 20-25 at Prague city. Love that great town, just sad that I have only few moments to visit some place. I have been only at Cenate of Czech Republic, short walk tour in night old town of Prague and Bethlehem Chapel. Also Incheba Expo palace, where all contest was held.
There is some photos and then more information.
Arriving to hotel with other Lithuanians, national organizers and other contestans.

Incheba Expo Prague palace

My project stand. Some of those flyers will go to States and will be given for some of you. Packing package and send to Maureen Strong with those flyers and my science project copy.

Czech Respublic Senate. Great place with very nice garden, but that was not very important at that time, because then was bascetball final where competing Lithuania. So we skip that event, eat something and go to watch. Sad, we won silver medal.

The time in that conest was amazing. I meet some great peoples, young scientists. To communicate with them is great experience, because I get know more about other countries from them point, get to know what they creating, working with etc. But now close to what I want to say. In contest I present science project about daylilies. People very interested in that topic, asked me to present my work in Czech or Russian languages, but I can only in English and Lithuanian. Jury interested also, ask some questions, let me to present my work to them and for other people, who go to contest zone. I have 6 jury members, who come to my work and they all was happy that I work with this.
Opening ceremony was at Krizik Singing Fountain near Incheba Expo. That was the most impresive and attractive ceremony I ever been. Those fountains, who dance with music, people who play with fire like me with pollens and others, which fill that ceremony to awesome event.
Award ceremony was in
Bethlehem Chapel. Program not very luxury, but I love that place. And dam da da da! I won Special Prize of Joint Research Centre for one week in chosen institue. I still reading about them, but now I look only in Italy and Spain institutes.
Free zone, where we can take a brake of presentation near stands. In this moment I send photos to computer and later add in this blog.

Krizik Singing Fountain before big show.

Contestants on stage. I am in the right. Behind me was dancing fountain. Great moment.

A photo when we walk from bus to Cenate with other Lithuanian contestant who need help for her heels.

And this is photo of me near my stand.

Award ceremony. All winners and me in the back.

And this photo captured about 10-15 minutes after ceremony.
And here is after ceremony when we wait for bus, which take all winners to hotels. Will miss that place, contestants, organizators and everything, what was in that contest in those 5 days.

WOW day

This day is really special. And I dedicate it for my blog and daylilies, which give me a suggestion to create it.
Today is round numbers day. I have 3000 views and this post is 50. Very much, I think so. So I want to thank you all who read and interested in my works and dreams.
There is mark of 3000 views of my page. As I use blogger and in Lithuanian, text in redactor or here is in my language, but you see numbers and can believe that I say true.

And now, as I say I want to write my post about daylilies. And not just talks, but as usual photo blog with my unusual daylily type, which blooming now. Yes - rebloomers!

And that is came very an impromptu, when I go back from exhibition of gladiolus in Panevėžys and back home with members of Lithuanian flower hybridizers society near my grandmother house and I asked to visit her. And when I take them with me to see how my fields look in not blooming season I was shocked. I have seen many rebloomers. Almost all Floyd Cove Nursery daylilies set new scapes and blooms. What is sad, that they are not in my own garden and I can't to stay in grandmother home to see them. Oh poor me. One of rebloomers is No String Attached. That one I wanted to see the most, but in normal blooming season that one won't set scape and I think that this will happened next year, but now I see that this one want to rebloom. But I am happy and for that, what I saw.

William Marchant seedling. Crawned Heads x Fiji. This is second seedling of that cross, which has bloomed for me this year. Just this one wanted to start blooming now. Cute one.
Curb Appeal. This is more than perfect variety, which give me many blooms this year. I counted 5 scapes and when I come closer I have seen and 6th. I get it just this just year, but I have seen more blooms than in those, which I grow 3 years.
Water Drops. First bloom this year and it look wow how great. And for this I am very appreciate to Claudia Conway, who gift me this one.
And this is one little surprise for Claudia. This is her seedling with very unusual buds. I picked one, but they are still too small and opened not well in my home for take a picture of it. But I can describe it. It is purple with small eyezone, and dark edge which is turn to big ruffled teeth edge. Amazing, but I need to see normal bloom, what not gonna happened this year. Cross: Darla Anita x China Clipper.

Now I see one big problem with gardening in two gardens in different parts of Lithuania. I wish I could found any way to get any money for my home and big garden to place all my flowers in. If you know any person who can help me, please write in comments, or contact me in other ways.

Have a nice day, my garden friends.
