Spring. Work. News.

Hello my dear friends and blog guests,

I am pleased that you still reading my posts even I do not post anything new in past few weeks. In this time I have lots of works to do and plan some others.
From last post there happened something interesting. I got part-time job. I was hired to Kaunas Botanical garden as garden helper, but in week I go up in carrier and now I have my own plant group. Wondered which one? Iris! I also have a big part of daylilies, but I share them with other person. So great.
What is new too? I was on TV show, called Dream Gardens (originally 'Svajonių Sodai'). I have just a short part in all show, but that was great. http://www.tv3play.lt/programos/svajoniu-sodai/373455?autostart=true Here is a link of that show. Yes, it is in Lithuanian, and with lots of commercials. My part is in second half.

Some more. In that time I have my society meeting. Love to be in there. Even I was the only organizer, but everything went very well.
As always I have great speakers and some ideas for future works in society. Present web-page of Lithuania Flower Hybridizers Society and chose new members of honor.

After studies I found some time and still work with silk. This time I show you just my work/prize for this year seedling contest KOTH in mydaylilies.com. Winner was William Marchant with lovely daylily, which I place on silk and send it for him.
Today I have lots of work in Botanical Garden. We replanted two big beds of irises and make one big row with different varieties and species. All gardeners confused, that they never replant irises this time, just after blooming. But I got a command to move them out from those beds and plant in other place as soon as I can. So I do it and will look how fine they will look later. But I got nice paid after that work. When I done, I take some left irises to my own garden, so picked few unknown varieties of Siberian Irises and some Iris Variegata. Interesting, that name is just that, nothing more. Leaves not variegated, so I think that is MTB iris. When it blooms I can say true.

And for the end of my short blog I show you a picture of plant which is blooming in Kaunas Botanical Garden now. It is Petasites Hybridus. Got a piece of it for my garden.

Good luck and happy spring for all.

  1. Ed that last plant is a strange alien looking thing. I think it is broadcasting messages to the mothership! Never seen one like that before. Congrats on your job at the Kaunas Botanical.

  2. "Dream Gardens" is like many of our US Garden shows about culture and such. If I was understanding any of it the main topic had to do with rejuvenating and old orchard and then the program ended on de-thatching the lawn and re-seedling via hand broadcasting of a pelleted grass seed. In between was about Daylilies and some of the various varieties available. (no Unusual form or Spiders mentioned though, still some lovely landscaping varieties and a nice look at your seedling beds. Seems to me it was somewhat of a nice thing to have been a guest on this show and perhaps get some recognition for your accomplishments so far.

Your "alien" plant, Petasites hybridus, the (common) butterbur is known for it's medicinal value as a treatment for Migraine Headaches (An extract [Butterbur] made from the roots).Common names include: Bog Rhubarb, Devil's Hat, Pestilence Wort (USA); Family: Daisy Family – Compositae, subfamily Asteroideae.Info found here:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Petasites_hybridus

Congrats on the job, seems made for you ! and this newest silk: Bill will love it! It's quite beautiful!

    1. That silk is not for Bill, it is for William Marchant.
The show was about famous peoples gardens and works in it. They invite specialist to help for celebrities to work easier and create this show. My role in here was just introduction and I help for News man very much. I have to identify all his daylilies in summer. He has some spiders, but I have to see them in bloom to can say which one is which. I show some pictures from my garden. You seen photos of them. Video is from his garden.
Thank you for comment and congrats for new job. I am really happy to be a part of team in Kaunas Botanical Garden.
